The theater producers Hal Luftig and Scott Sanders are aiming to mount the first Broadway revival of the musical “Evita” in the next year or two, with the Argentine actress Elena Roger in the title role, which she played to acclaim in London in 2006, an executive involved with the production said on Wednesday.

The plans for the revival, which were reported in The New York Post on Wednesday, call for a Broadway opening during the 2011-12 season, and the show could start performances as late as the spring of 2012, said the executive, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the producers had not permitted details to be made public.

While the producers have faith in Ms. Roger to deliver a star turn as Eva Perón in the Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice musical, the executive said, they are also looking for a bona fide household name to play the role of Che Guevara. An offer had been made to the singer and actor Ricky Martin, but he had not accepted as of Wednesday afternoon, the executive said.
