2021 MLB playoffs schedule: Postseason march to World Series starts Oct. 5

 USA TODAY Sports

After a grueling 162 games and six months, Major League Baseball's postseason is upon us.

The postseason began on Oct. 5 with the American League wild-card game between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, followed by the National League wild-card game a day later between the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

The World Series begins on Oct. 26 with a potential Game 7 scheduled for Nov. 3, its latest since 2009.

The latest a World Series game has been played is Nov. 4, in 2001 and again in 2009. The Series has not gone past October since 2017, when the Houston Astros won Game 7 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Nov. 1.

The team with the better record will have home-field advantage in the World Series, played in a 2-3-2 format.
