(CNN) -- Kroger is recalling some containers of its Deluxe Chocolate Paradise Ice Cream, sold in 17 states, because it may contain tree nuts that are not listed on the label, the grocery chain said Tuesday.

Nuts can cause life-threatening reactions in people who are allergic.

The Kroger brand ice cream was sold in stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

The recall also affects Jay C, Food 4 Less, Hilander, Owen's, Pay Less and Scott's
stores in Illinois and Indiana, Kroger said.
