LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AP) — The Slovenian Health Ministry has confirmed the country's first case of swine flu in a young woman who recently visited New York.
The ministry says the woman felt symptoms Wednesday while on a plane from New York to Venice in neighboring Italy, from where she returned to Slovenia.
It says she immediately checked in into a clinic in the Slovene capital of Ljubljana, and a laboratory at the state's Institute for Public Health confirmed she had swine flu.
The ministry said Friday the woman is being treated with Tamiflu antiviral medicine but is not in a hospital.
The World Health Organization declared a swine flu pandemic on June 11. WHO says 35,928 people in 76 countries have been infected and 163 have died.
