Hurricanes get goalie help

Oft-traded defenseman Aaron Ward is on the move again, getting traded from the Carolina Hurricanes to the Anaheim Ducks Wednesday for a conditional fourth-round pick and goaltender Justin Pogge.

Ward, 37, will provide defensive depth for the Ducks, and Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford told ESPN.com that his team needed healthy goaltending, with Cam Ward out of action because of an upper-body injury.

The Hurricanes have only two healthy goaltenders, and they like Pogge for the depth he provides both in the short-term and moving forward, Rutherford said.

The fourth-round pick previously belonged to Boston and could be a 2010 or 2011 pick.

Ward has played with the Red Wings, Bruins, Rangers and had three stints with the Hurricanes.

Scott Burnside covers the NHL for ESPN.com.
